DSLD Land Management Company began in 1983 when owner, David H. Sharp, integrated his life-long interest in horticulture and business. Mr. Sharp's interests, complimented with a background in drainage and soil erosion, led him to the creation of the ideal landscape construction company specializing in residential design and installation.

Mr. Sharp's educational background consists of his original course of study in Geotechnical Engineering at Ohio State University. During his studies at OSU, he participated in a work-study program, which led him to Evanston, Wyoming in the early 1980's to work for Cooper and Clark Engineering, and later to Washington, D.C. to work for CTL Engineering. Mr. Sharp then transferred to Samford University in Birmingham, after attaining a scholarship and a chance to play college soccer. Mr. Sharp graduated from Samford University with a degree in business and a full-time position with Ground Engineering Company.

Soon, Mr. Sharp became interested in applying his back ground in construction materials engineering, to a new course of study in ornamental horticulture. After returning to school and obtaining the requisite education in ornamental horticulture and landscape design DSLD Land Management Inc. was launched.

Today DSLD has built an excellent reputation in landscape construction as a prominent design/build concern that services the entire state of Alabama. Over the past 25 years DSLD has been recognized and featured in publications like Southern Living Magazine and Builder's Architect Magazine. Mr. Sharp has been a regular speaker at various garden clubs, Birmingham Botanical Gardens , Birmingham Public Library's Lecture Series, and has traveled throughout Europe and Asia visiting gardens and landscapes to gain a more thorough understanding of various cultural landscape design applications.
